YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. –William Schonfeldt blasted a shot from 35 yards out just 26 seconds into the second half as Young Harris College shut out Flagler College 1-0 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday (Sept. 27) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
Young Harris, which is ranked No. 9 in the NCAA Division II, remains undefeated with a 6-0-1 overall mark and a 3-0-0 record in the Peach Belt while Flagler lost its third consecutive match and dropped to 3-3-1 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play. The Mountain Lions return to action Wednesday (Oct. 1) when they host Anderson (S.C.) University in a 7:30 p.m. non-conference match.
The deciding goal by Schonfeldt – his first of the season – came when he collected a loose ball on the right side of the field and deposited it into the left side of the net.
The Mountain Lion defense clamped down on the Saints, holding them to four shots, two of which were on goal. The Mountain Lions recorded their third consecutive clean sheet in as many Peach Belt matches and have outscored them 14-0 in those matches. The Young Harris offense poured on 22 shots, 10 of which were on goal.
Goalkeeper Jordan Bradshaw saved both shots he faced for the Mountain Lions and record his third shutout of 2014 while Lex Craggs tallied eight saves for the Saints.
