Shazad leads No. 9 Mountain Lions past Trojans 4-1

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Khurram Shazad scored twice as the Young Harris College men's soccer team recorded a 4-1 non-conference victory over Anderson (S.C.) University Wednesday (Oct. 1) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The ninth-ranked Mountain Lions won their seventh consecutive match as they improved to 7-0-1 while the Trojans slipped to 3-5-0. Young Harris returns to action Oct. 11 when they travel to Florence, South Carolina, for a 5 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match against No. 22 Francis Marion University.

The Trojans snapped the Mountain Lions scoreless streak of 328 minutes as Anderson took advantage of a YHC turnover and scored when Aaron Roberson knocked the ball into the left corner of the goal 9:28 into the match. Roberson's first goal of the season gave the Trojans a 1-0 lead.

The Mountain Lions equalized the match at 1 at the 30:22 mark as Paco Craig followed his own miss and knocked the ball into the left corner of the net. Young Harris took the lead for good at the 58:38 mark as William Schonfeldt sent in a through ball that Shazad collected at the top of the box and fired a shot into the center of the net.

The Mountain Lions, who outshot Anderson 16-5, added two insurance goals in the final 10 minutes of the match. Ilija Ilic's team-leading seventh goal at the 80:08 mark came after Lewis Hilton's initial shot hit the crossbar. Shazad's sixth goal of 2014 followed four minutes later after Kendall Carballo crossed the ball across the top of the box and Shazad deposited the goal into the right side of the net.

Bo Haug collected four saves in goal for the Trojans while Jordan Bradshaw had two for the Mountain Lions.
