Ilic leads Mountain Lions to 5-0 PBC win over USC Aiken

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Ilija Ilic scored twice and assisted on three more as Young Harris College men's soccer team registered a 5-0 Peach Belt Conference victory over the University of South Carolina Aiken Wednesday (Sept. 24) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The ninth-ranked Mountain Lions put together their second consecutive clean sheet as they improved to 5-0-1 overall and to 2-0-0 in the league, while the Pacers fell to 5-2-1 and 0-1-0. Young Harris returns Saturday (Sept. 27) when they host Flagler College in a 7:30 p.m. Peach Belt match.

Young Harris, which has outscored its opponents 13-0 in two PBC contests to date, scored three goals over a seven minute span to take a 3-0 lead. Khurram Shazad served the ball into the box and Ilic converted from six yards at the 11:00 mark. Ilic, who has a team-leading six goals in 2014, added a penalty kick nearly three minutes later after an YHC player was taken down in the box.

Lewis Hilton scored at the 18:02 mark when he knocked in a rebound of Ilic's initial shot. It was Hilton's fourth goal of the year. The Mountain Lions tallied their final goal of the first half when Alex Wyper knocked in his second strike of the season off an assist from Craig Quinn and Ilic midway through the period.

Shazad scored his fourth goal of the season at 72:36 mark after Ilic sent the ball into the box for the Mountain Lions, who outshot the Pacers 25-4 and held a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks.

YHC goalkeeper Anton Víden recorded his first shutout of the year while Brandon Jarosz (six) and Joshua Poissant (one) combined for seven saves for the Pacers.
