Heald's goal with 40.2 seconds remaining lifts Mountain Lions past Pacers 3-2

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Dani Heald scored two goals in the final 14 minutes – including the decisive goal with 40.2 seconds remaining – to rally Young Harris College past the University of South Carolina Aiken 3-2 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Wednesday (Sept. 24) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 2-3-0 overall and to 1-1-0 in the Peach Belt while the Pacers fell to 3-4-1 and to 1-1-0. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Sept. 27) with as they host a 5 p.m. league encounter against Flagler College.

Young Harris wasted little time to jump out to a 1-0 lead as Carly Rich converted a cross from Amber Matthews just 78 seconds into the match for her second goal of 2014. The Pacers scored twice on goals by Jenna Beauregard and Hannah Allison in a span of seven minutes to open up a 2-1 lead at the 53:08 mark.

The Pacers played the final 19:58 after Allison was sent off after receiving her second caution of the match. Heald then tied the match at 2 for the Mountain Lions with 14:10 remaining in regulation. Heald scored the match winner with 40.2 seconds after Sydney Baird sent the ball into the box before Dani Pena touched it over to Heald at the far post who knocked it past the USC Aiken goalkeeper.

Young Harris held a 20-14 advantage in shots, including a 13-7 margin in the second half. Mountain Lion goalkeeper Arielle Charles tallied six saves while Nicole Cranny tallied nine for the Pacers.
