MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College scored six runs in the second inning and then held on for an 8-6 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over Young Harris College Sunday (April 20) evening at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats, who are ranked No. 23 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Top 30 poll, snapped their six-game losing streak as they improved to 27-12 overall and to 14-8 in the Peach Belt. The Mountain Lions fell to 24-21 and 12-13. The two teams wrap up their three-game series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Monday (April 21).
Clay Ardeeser had a bases-clearing, two-out double down the left-field line to highlight the six-run second inning off Young Harris starter Justin Cooper (4-5).
The Mountain Lions began their comeback with two runs in the fourth. Tom Valichka had an RBI ground out after Adam Moore led off the inning with a triple to right. Josh Rudnik added a bases-loaded walk off Georgia College starter Spencer Thomas (4-0).
Georgia College got a run back in its half of the inning on an Ardeeser single before Young Harris added a run in the fifth on a fielder's choice by Trey Rogers and three more runs in the sixth on Rudnik's home run to left field to trim the lead to 7-6. It was Rudnik's ninth homer of 2014.
The Bobcats added an unearned insurance run in the eighth and reliever Jordan Modine worked around two Young Harris singles in the ninth to earn his third save.
Rudnik, David Atwood, Moore and Zach Odom led the Mountain Lions with two hits each.
