Wall's slam gives Mountain Lions 12-9 win over Tusculum

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. –Zach Wall's grand slam highlighted a six-run seventh inning as Young Harris College rallied to a 12-9 victory over Tusculum College Tuesday (April 1) afternoon in a non-conference baseball game at  Zell B. Miller Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 20-16 with their first win in four tries against Tusculum, which fell to 22-13. Young Harris opens a three-game Peach Belt Conference set against Georgia Southwestern State University with a 6 p.m. contest Friday (April 4).

The Mountain Lions, who scored 10 of their 12 runs with two outs in the game, rallied from deficits of 4-0 and 9-6 to beat the Pioneers. Tusculum out-hit Young Harris by a 14-7 margin, but the Mountain Lions drew eight walks, including three in the decisive seventh inning.

After the Pioneers scored four times in the sixth inning to open a 9-6 lead, the Mountain Lions batted around in the seventh inning. Adam Moore, who went 2-for-5, and Trey Rogers added RBI singles to pull Young Harris within a run at 9-8. After Dom Wyshinski and Bowen Klosinski walked to load the bases, Wall, who went 2-for-3, hit a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence for his fifth homer of the season and gave the Mountain Lions the 12-9 lead.

The Mountain Lions also scored six runs in the third inning as they took advantage of a Tusculum error to score five unearned runs. Josh Rudnik had an RBI ground out while Moore and Tom Valichka each added run-scoring singles. Rogers, who was 2-for-4, closed out the scored with a two-run double.

YHC reliever James Mills pitched three shutout innings to pick up the win to move his record to 3-2. Reliever Billy Sivyer (2-2) took the loss for the Pioneers.
