Mountain Lions blast three homers in 12-2 win over Jaguars

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Jack Morrow, Trey Rogers and Dom Wyshinski each hit home runs as the Young Harris College baseball team registered a 12-2 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia Regents University Augusta Saturday (March 29) evening at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

The Mountain Lions won their sixth overall game and Peach Belt contest in a row as they improved to 18-15 overall and to 7-9 in the league, while the Jaguars slipped to 12-20 and 4-12. The teams will wrap up their weekend series with a noon doubleheader Sunday (March 30).

Young Harris jumped out to a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and third innings. Adam Moore had an RBI single through the left side in the first inning before the Mountain Lions added a run-scoring ground out by Josh Rudnik.

The Jaguars got a run back in the fourth on a Ryan Khan single before the Mountain Lions opened the game up with a four-run fifth inning. Zach Odom, David Atwood, Morrow and Moore each collected RBI hits off GRU Augusta starter Kip Custer (3-5) as Young Harris took a 6-1 lead.

The Mountain Lions made it 7-1 on Rogers' solo homer – his fifth of 2014 – to left field in the sixth. The Jaguars got a run back in the sixth, but Young Harris added a two-run home run by Wyshinski in the eighth and a three-run homer by Morrow in the ninth to take a 12-2 lead. It was Wyshinski's second long ball of the season while Morrow clubbed his team-leading seventh.

Atwood, Rogers and Odom led the Mountain Lions' 16-hit parade with three each while Rudnik, Morrow and Moore collected two apiece. Morrow led Young Harris with four RBI while Moore and Wyshinski had two each.

Justin Cooper (4-3) had his third double-digit strikeout game of the season and second in as many games as he had 10 in eight innings of work.
