Wilson, Mountain Lions win opener against Tennessee Temple 93-87

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – C.J. Wilson  scored a career-high 25 points and dished out nine assists to lead five Young Harris College players in double figures as Young Harris College opened its men's basketball season with a 93-87 non-conference victory over Tennessee Temple University Saturday (Nov. 16) afternoon at the YHC Basketball Arena.

The Mountain Lions improved to 1-0 while the Crusaders fell to 2-2. Young Harris will return to action Monday (Nov. 18) when they travel to Birmingham, Alabama, for a 7 p.m. Central time exhibition contest against NCAA Division I University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Young Harris used a 14-5 run midway through the second half to open up its largest lead – 18 points (73-55) – when Bjorn Walker, who finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds, connected on a three-pointer from the top of the key with 9:01 to play. However, the Crusaders battled back to close within two points (89-87) as Jullian Butts connected on a three-pointer with 16 seconds remaining.

The Mountain Lions held off Tennessee Temple by making four free throws – two by Ben Waterhouse and two by Walker – in the final seconds to record the win.

"I thought it was a good team win," said YHC head coach Pete Herrmann. "We had five players in double figures and everybody had a part to play. C.J. was a workhorse tonight and Bjorn had a double double."

Herdie Lawrence had 16 points and eight rebounds while blocking three shots for the Mountain Lions. Kevin Altidore tallied 12 points and seven rebounds and Isaiah Johnson contributed 10 points for Young Harris.

Bryan Jones led the Crusaders with 25 points while T.C. Clarke and Jullian Butts each added 15 apiece.
