No. 3 Mountain Lions shut out Montevallo 1-0 to record perfect league mark

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Paco Craig scored a goal late in the first half and made it stand up as the Young Harris College men's soccer team shut out the University of Montevallo 1-0 in a Peach Belt Conference match Saturday (Nov. 1) at Varsity Field.

The No. 3 Mountain Lions won their 19th consecutive regular-season PBC contest as they improved to 14-0-1 overall and to 9-0-0 in the Peach Belt. It is the second consecutive year that Young Harris, which will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Peach Belt tournament this week, has gone through the conference schedule unblemished.  The Falcons, who has also qualified for the PBC tournament, fell to 6-6-4 and 3-4-2.

The deciding goal was scored at the 34:53 mark when Lewis Hilton served the ball to Craig at the back post. Craig slotted the ball in unmarked for his seventh strike of 2014 while Hilton registered his sixth save.

The Mountain Lions had to play the final 45:31 of the mark down a man after Craig Quinn was sent off after receiving a red card with 31 seconds left in the first half. Young Harris wasn't to be deterred as the Mountain Lions held a 25-4 (8-0 on goal) advantage in shots, including a 12-1 margin in the second half.

Jordan Bradshaw recorded his fifth clean sheet for the Mountain Lions in goal and seventh overall for Young Harris while Yannic Horn had seven stops for the Falcons.
