Mountain Lions soar past Nighthawks 8-2 in PBC Tournament quarterfinals

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Ilija Ilic scored three goals and André Johansson added two more as Young Harris College easily defeated the University of North Georgia 8-2 Tuesday (Nov. 4) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field in a quarterfinal match of the 2014 Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Tournament.

The top-seeded Mountain Lions, who are ranked No. 2 in the latest NSCAA NCAA Division II Top 25 poll, improved to 15-0-1 while the Nighthawks, who were outscored by Young Harris 16-2 this season, ended their campaign at 4-12-2. Young Harris advances to Friday's (Nov. 7) 11 a.m. semifinal match in Evans, Georgia, against Clayton State University, which defeated Flagler College 4-2 in their quarterfinal.

The Mountain Lions didn't waste much time as Kendall Carballo scored 44 seconds into the match off an assist from William Schonfeldt. Ilic, who has 19 goals on the season scored twice in a 47 second span to push the YHC lead to 3-0 at the 25:34 mark.

Johansson and Alex Wyper got in the scoring column to give the Mountain Lions, who outshot North Georgia 25-9, a 5-0 lead at the intermission. Kevin Sosa scored five minutes into the second half before Ilic completed his third hat trick of the season to give YHC a 7-0 lead at the 52:52 mark.

A strike by Johansson closed out the scoring for the Mountain Lions before North Georgia got into the scoring column on goals from Luis Huertas and Eric Carrion in the final 15 minutes.

Ilic also added two assists while Khurram Shazad, Lewis Hilton, Wyper and Johansson each had one for the Mountain Lions while Daniel Bowit had one for North Georgia.

Victor Ohlin recorded five saves for the Nighthawks while Jordan Bradshaw (1) and Anton Vidén (5) combined for six saves for the Mountain Lions.
