YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Columbus State University defeated Young Harris College 3-1 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field on a cool, breezy Saturday (Oct. 4) afternoon.
The No. 5 Cougars improved to 8-0-1 overall and to 4-0-0 in the league while the Mountain Lions fell to 2-6-0 and 1-4-0. Young Harris returns to action Monday (Oct. 6) with a 7 p.m. home non-conference against Tennessee Temple University.
Columbus State took a 1-0 lead right before the half as Stephanie Kolwicz knocked the ball into the net after a touch from Rebecca Calder. The Cougars doubled their advantage just over six minutes into the second half as Mandy Janowitz collected a ball in the box and slipped it into the left corner of the goal.
Rachel Hill cut the margin in half at 2-1 at the 74:49 mark with her chip shot from 35 yards out that went into the top center of the net. It was Hill's first score of 2014. Columbus State added an insurance goal with 6:40 remaining as Kelsey Pelletier headed in Chelsea Person's throw in.
Arielle Charles (eight) and Kylie Mason (one) combined to register nine saves for the Mountain Lions while Maylyn Parsons had five for the Cougars.
