YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Sydney Thompson scored with 4:13 remaining in double overtime to give Lander University a 1-0 Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Wednesday (Oct. 22) evening at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Bearcats improved to 6-2-4 overall and to 3-2-3 inside the conference while Young Harris fell to 5-9-0 and 2-7-0. The Mountain Lions return to action Saturday (Oct. 25) when they play at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in an 11 a.m. PBC contest.
Taylor Hurst sent into a through ball to Thompson at the top of the box and she was able to knock it into the right corner of the net for the deciding goal at the 105:47 mark. It was Thompson's second goal of 2014.
Sydney Baird and Emily Ober led the Mountain Lions with three shots each while Krissy Kauffman, Dani Pena, Carly Rich, Kaylee Bromell, Elana Newman and Madelyn Youngblood each had one.
Arielle Charles recorded a career-tying 14 saves in goal for the Mountain Lions while Katie Lyle had four stops for Lander.
