Carballo leads No. 5 Mountain Lions past Hurricanes 4-1

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Kendall Carballo scored twice within a 13-second span as Young Harris College recorded a 4-1 Peach Belt Conference men's soccer victory over Georgia Southwestern State University Saturday (Oct. 18) evening on Youth Night at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The No. 5-ranked Mountain Lions won their 10th consecutive match as they improved to 10-0-1 overall and to 5-0-0 in the Peach Belt while the Hurricanes slipped to 3-8-2 and 1-5-1. Young Harris will host Lander University Wednesday (Oct. 22) in a 7 p.m. league contest.

Young Harris, which outshot Georgia Southwestern 30-7 (15-3 on goal), finally broke free from the Hurricanes when Carballo collected a ball in the box and kicked it into the right corner of the net at the 35:02 mark. Carballo, who has five goals on the season, struck again 13 seconds later when he took a pass from Ilija Ilic in the middle of the box and put the ball in the back of the net.

Young Harris closed out the scoring with Ilic scored his team-leading 10th strike of the year at the 84:55 mark. Daniel Alvarado sent a through ball to Ilic at the top of the box and Ilic beat the Georgia Southwestern goalkeeper and then shot ricocheted off the left post and into the net.
