YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College scored twice in the first half as the Mountain Lions recorded a 2-0 Peach Belt Conference men's soccer victory over cross-mountain rival University of North Georgia Saturday (Sept. 21) afternoon at a rainy YHC Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 4-1-0 overall and to 1-0-0 in the Peach Belt while the Nighthawks fell to 1-6-0 and 0-1-0. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Sept. 25) when they travel to Aiken, S.C., for a 5:30 p.m. PBC contest against the University of South Carolina Aiken.
Young Harris took a 1-0 lead at the 12:22 mark when Alex Wyper scored his first goal of the season. Lewis Hilton served the ball to Ilija Ilic who crossed the ball to Wyper at the right post. The Mountain Lions added an insurance goal from Ilic off a direct kick from 25 yards out. Ilic scored his team-leading fifth goal of 2013 and has scored a goal in every match.
Goalkeeper Pedro Ozi stopped four shots for the Mountain Lions as he notched his third shutout of the season, while Kris Alonzo had six saves for the Nighthawks, who were outshot by Young Harris 21-8.
