Shazad's hat trick leads Mountain Lions to 6-0 win over Mount Olive

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Young Harris College scored five goals – three from Khurram Shazad - in the second half as the Mountain Lions shut out Mount Olive College 6-0 Saturday (Sept. 14) afternoon at Dickson Field on the campus of Queens (N.C.) University of Charlotte.

The Mountain Lions, who are ranked No. 5 in the Southeast Region, improved to 3-1-0 while the Trojans remained winless in four tries (0-4-0). Young Harris opens its Peach Belt Conference schedule next Saturday (Sept. 21) at 4 p.m. when they host the University of North Georgia at the YHC Lacrosse Field.

Ilija Ilic, who has scored in every match this season, scored at the 24:28 mark when he collected a loose ball in the box and knocked it into the right corner of the goal for his fourth strike of the season. It would stay that way until Shazad scored the first of his goals at the 53:10 mark off an Adam Amundson assist to give Young Harris a 2-0 lead.

Ilic assisted the next two Young Harris goals. His through ball set up the first of two goals by Niall McCabe in the 62nd minute. Four minutes later Ilic served the ball into Shazad who beat the goalkeeper to give the Mountain Lions a 4-0 lead. McCabe added another goal at the 68:20 mark off an assist from Craig Caffery before Shazad recorded his first collegiate hat trick after converting a Trojan turnover in the backfield in the 80th minute.

Young Harris dominated the match, holding a 27-8 advantage in shots (15-4 on goal). Pedro Ozi registered his second shutout with four saves for the Mountain Lions while the tandem of Aleksandar Drobac (four) and Adam Lawrence (five) stopped a total of nine shots.
