ANDERSON, S.C. – Mattias Schyberg's goal in the opening minutes of the second overtime period as Anderson (S.C.) University took a 2-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over Young Harris College Wednesday (Sept. 11) afternoon at Trojan Stadium.
The Trojans, who are ranked No. 6 regionally, improved to 3-0-0 while the Mountain Lions, who are ranked No. 5 in the region, fell to 2-1-0. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Sept. 14) for a 2 p.m. match against Mount Olive College. The match will be played on the campus of Queens (N.C) University in Charlotte, N.C.
Young Harris had sent the match into extra time when Ilija Ilic scored with 27 seconds remaining in regulation. Off a free kick, Niall McCabe found Paco Craig in the box who headed the ball to an open Ilic who scored on the empty net. It was Ilic's team-leading third goal of 2013.
The Trojans scored the match winner at the 101:57 mark as Schyberg's winner came off a long pass that scooted past the Young Harris backline. Schyberg was able to control the long ball, made a 15-yard run and fired the deciding goal.
Young Harris outshot Anderson 16-10 (9-3 on goal) in the match. Bo Hoag gathered eight saves in net for the Trojans while Jordan Bradshaw had the lone save for the Mountain Lions.
