Edwards leads Mountain Lions past North Greenville 2-1

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Candace Edwards scored twice as the Young Harris College women's soccer team defeated North Greenville University 2-1 in a non-conference match Wednesday (Sept. 11) afternoon at the YHC Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 2-1-0 while the Crusaders fell to 1-2-0. Young Harris will next travel to Wilson, N.C., for a 1 p.m. match Sunday (Sept. 15) at Barton College.

Edwards, who leads Young Harris with three goals in 2013, took a 1-0 lead 57 seconds before halftime as she followed her own missed shot that NGU goalkeeper Kathryn Tate couldn't corral the ball.

North Greenville equalized the match at 1 less than three minutes into the second half as Rebekah Anderson took a cross from Ansley Dobbs and put in the bottom right corner. Edwards gave the Mountain Lions the lead for good at the 58:32 mark. Whitney Thomas sent a through ball to Edwards, who beat the goalkeeper and put it in the left corner of the goal.

Young Harris held a 22-8 advantage over North Greenville 22-8 in shots. Tate stopped 13 shots for North Greenville while Taylor Erickson had six for the Mountain Lions.
