YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Trey Rogers and Zach Bricknell each hit home runs as the Young Harris College baseball team defeated Tennessee Temple University 13-3 in seven innings Friday (April 26) evening at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Mountain Lions evened their record at 22-22 while the Crusaders slipped to 16-20. Young Harris will return to action Thursday (May 2) when they host Francis Marion University in a 6 p.m. Peach Belt Conference game.
Rogers led off the bottom of the first with a homer – his ninth of the year – just inside the left field fair pole. His homer highlighted a four-run inning. Brady McCarter had a two-run single and Zeke Gribble contributed a RBI single in the inning.
Bricknell's Peach Belt-leading 15th homer – a two-run blast to right field – highlighted an eight-run third inning that expanded the lead for Young Harris to 12-0. Trevor Spradlin had a two-run single while Jack Morrow drove in two runs with a double down the left field line. Dom Wyshinski had a RBI double and Bowen Klosinski added a triple and scored on a throwing error.
The Mountain Lions closed out the scoring in the sixth on Trevor Spradlin's bases-loaded walk.
Every Young Harris starter but one had at least one hit. McCarter led the 14-hit attack with three while Morrow, Wyshinski, and Bricknell each had two.
Travis Donahoo (3-0) earned the win as he allowed just two hits in four shutout innings. Dustin Crumley took the loss for the Crusaders.
