Young Harris walks past Jaguars 15-0

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College opened up a Peach Belt Conference weekend baseball series against Augusta State University Friday (March 29) evening at Zell B. Miller Field with a 15-0 shutout.

The Mountain Lions improved to 13-15 overall and to 3-13 in the Peach Belt while Jaguars fell to 10-23 and 3-13. The two teams wrap up the series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday (March 30).

Young Harris took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first against ASU hurler Kip Custer (5-4) on Jack Morrow's RBI double down the right-field line after David Atwood reached on a single and stole second base. Morrow would go 4-for-4 with 4 RBI in the contest.

The Mountain Lions tacked on two more in both the third and fifth innings. Trey Rogers had a run-scoring single in the third and Morrow smacked a two-run homer – his eighth of 2013 – to left in the fifth.

Young Harris broke the game wide open an inning later as the Mountain Lions sent 14 batters to the plate as they scored 10 runs on just two hits. Young Harris made the most of a Jaguar error, five walks, two wild pitches and two hit batters. Dom Wyshinski stroked a two-run double to left-center and Zach Bricknell connected on his seventh homer – a three-run blast to center field – in the inning.

Adam Moore (3-2) tossed the first complete-game shutout for the Mountain Lions in 2013 as he limited the Mountain Lions to just six hits while striking out six.
