Mountain Lions march past Warriors 17-0

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Adam Moore and Zach Bricknell combined to drive in nine runs as Young Harris College shut out Southern Wesleyan University 17-0 in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday (March 20) evening at Zell B. Miller Field.

Young Harris snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 11-12 while Southern Wesleyan fell to 11-16. Young Harris steps back into Peach Belt Conference action Saturday (March 23) with an 11 a.m. doubleheader in Savannah, Ga., against Armstrong Atlantic State University.

The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second off SWU starter Johnny Ponder (0-1). Bricknell had a two-run double to right-center field, Mike Medori drove in another run on a ground out and Trey Rogers added a run-scoring single to left field.

Young Harris added two more runs on Bricknell's triple in the third before they scored four runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. Medori singled home the first run in the fifth before Moore smacked a three-run homer – his third of the season – to left field. Medori and Spencer Thomas had back-to-back run-scoring singles while Moore added a two-run single in the sixth.

Thomas closed out the scoring with a two-run homer to right field in the eighth inning. It was Thomas' second homer of 2013.

Dom Wyshinski and Thomas led the Mountain Lions with three hits apiece while Moore, Bricknell and Medori collected two hits each as Young Harris had 16 safeties against the Warriors. Moore drove in five runs while Bricknell added four RBI and  Medori and Spencer each drove in three runs.

Travis Donahoo (2-0) earned the win with four scoring innings. The Mountain Lions limited the Warriors to five singles.
