YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Clayton State University scored a goal in each half as the Lakers defeated Young Harris College 2-0 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Wednesday (Oct. 30) afternoon at the Frances Wood Wilson Soccer Field.
The Lakers improved to 11-3-4 overall and to 8-0-3 in the Peach Belt as they clinched at least a share of the conference title. Young Harris fell to 4-12-0 and 1-9-0. The Mountain Lions close out their season Saturday (Nov. 2) at 4:30 p.m. when they host the University of Montevallo. The Mountain Lions will recognize their seniors prior to the match.
Emily Walling's header off Melissa Hetherington's corner kick gave Clayton State a 1-0 lead at the 3:44 mark. Hetherington added an insurance goal at the 55:48 mark as she collected a loose ball at the top of the box and knocked it in the left corner for a 2-0 advantage.
Taylor Erickson, who leads the Peach Belt with 118 saves, added 13 stops for the Mountain Lions while Charlotte McCormack tallied four for the Lakers.
