YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo edged Young Harris College 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Saturday (Nov. 2) afternoon on Senior Day at the Frances Wood Wilson Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Falcons improved to 3-8-4 overall and to 3-6-2 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions ended their season at 4-13-0 and 1-10-0.
Montevallo took a 1-0 lead on a set piece as Camilla Alderin's corner kick was headed in by Rebecca Dowling at the back post at the 7:36 mark. It was Dowling's first goal of the season. The Falcons doubled their lead when Michaela Graber collected a loose ball and chipped it in from 25 yards out that sailed just under the crossbar at the 69:49 mark.
The Mountain Lions pulled within a goal at 2-1 when senior Candace Edwards raced down the right sideline and sent it in to fellow senior Whitney Thomas, who put it in the left corner of the goal, for her team-leading 10th goal with 17.5 seconds left.
Senior Yustin Nambo collected nine saves for the Mountain Lions while Taylor Kerr had seven for the Falcons.
Prior to the match, the Mountain Lions recognized and honored their eight seniors. In addition to Edwards, Thomas and Nambo, Allison Burnham, Erica Lowery, Kristen Naylor, Gabby Smith and Hayden Verner were saluted.
