PEACH BELT CHAMPIONS! McCabe scores four as Mountain Lions beat Braves 5-2

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Senior Niall McCabe played a part in every goal as No. 3-ranked Young Harris College wrap up its first Peach Belt Conference regular-season men's soccer title as the Mountain Lions took a 5-2 decision over the University of North Carolina at Pembroke Saturday (Oct. 26) afternoon at the Frances Wood Wilson Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions won their 11th consecutive match as they improved to 13-1-0 overall and 7-0-0 in the Peach Belt while the Braves fell to 7-7-1 and 3-4-1. It the first regular-season PBC title in the program's history. Young Harris will return to action Wednesday (Oct. 30) when they host Clayton State University in a 4:30 p.m. home match.

Young Harris struck first as they scored in  the fourth minute as McCabe, who has nine goals on the season, when collected a turnover at the top of the box and knocked it into the left corner of the net. The Braves leveled the match at 1 when James Casserly collected a loose ball in the box at the 19:44 mark and fired a shot that ricocheted off the left post and in the goal for his fourth strike of 2013.

The Mountain Lions broke the match open with four scores over a 13-minute span in the early moments of the second half.

McCabe gave Young Harris the lead for good after he converted an Alex Wyper cross at the 47:03 mark and then did the same off a pass from Khurram Shazad four minutes later. A UNCP goal from Sam Miles at the 55:05 mark off the left post cut the margin to 3-2, but Wyper scored his eight goal off a service from McCabe, who leads the Peach Belt with 14 assists, 69 seconds later. McCabe tied a college record (as a four-year program) with his fourth goal off a through ball from Shazad at the 60:07 mark.

Young Harris outshot UNCP 16-8. Ryan Hanson tallied seven saves for the Braves while Pedro Ozi had two for the Mountain Lions.
