YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Ilija Ilic and Khurram Shazad each scored goals as the No. 2-ranked Young Harris College men's soccer team defeated Clayton State University 2-0 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Wednesday (Oct. 30) afternoon at the Frances Wood Wilson Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions won their 12th consecutive match as they improved to 14-1-0 overall and to 8-0-0 in the Peach Belt while the Lakers fell to 10-4-2 and 5-3-1. Young Harris will close out the regular season Saturday (Nov. 2) when they host the University of Montevallo at 2 p.m.
Clayton had the first chance to score when Alhagi Toure's shot hit the left post at the 34:23 mark. On the next possession for the Mountain Lions Niall McCabe fed a ball to Ilic at the back post and he knocked it in for his league-tying 16th goal of the season. It was McCabe's PBC-best 15th assist of 2013.
Young Harris, which outshot Clayton State 24-9, added an insurance goal with 8:53 remaining in the game. Sosa played the ball into Shazad right of the box and Shazad deposited it into the right corner of the net.
Pedro Ozi recorded two saves for Young Harris as he notched his seventh shutout of the campaign. Nick Punter tallied eight saves for the Lakers.
