YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College won its seventh consecutive match with a 3-0 Peach Belt Conference men's soccer victory over Francis Marion University Saturday (Oct. 12) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The 12th-ranked Mountain Lions improved to 9-1-0 overall and to 4-0-0 in the league while the Patriots fell to 5-2-3 and 3-2-0. Young Harris will host Mars Hill University in a 3 p.m. non-conference contest Tuesday (Oct. 15).
The Mountain Lions, who held a 19-12 advantage in shots, took a 1-0 lead in the latter moments of the first half. Ilija Ilic passed the ball across the box and Lewis Hilton knocked the ball into the left corner of the net for his first goal of the season.
Niall McCabe, who leads the conference with eight assists, flicked the ball to Khurram Shazad on the left side of the box. Shazad connected from 10 yards out into the right corner of the goal at the 78:23 mark for his fifth goal of 2013. Ilic added his team-leading ninth goal of the season with 51 seconds remaining in the match as he collected a loose ball in the box and beat the goalkeeper from six yards out. Ilic is currently second in the PBC in goals and points (22).
Young Harris goalkeeper Pedro Ozi had his fourth clean sheet of the season as he stopped six shots while Nick Stover had four for the Patriots.
