YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College picked up its first-ever Peach Belt Conference women's soccer victory as the Mountain Lions shut out Flagler College 1-0 Saturday (Sept. 22) afternoon at the Frances Wood Wilson Soccer Field.
Young Harris improved to 5-2-0 overall and to 1-2-0 in the conference, while the Saints saw their seven-match unbeaten streak come to an end and fell to 6-1-1 and 1-1-0. The Mountain Lions return to the pitch next Saturday (Sept. 29) when they host No. 18 Columbus State University in a 1 p.m. match at Wilson Field.
The Mountain Lions made the most of their one shot on goal as Erica Lowery fed teammate Haley Holderfield a through ball and Holderfield gave Young Harris a 1-0 lead at the 11:48 mark. It was Holderfield's team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Flagler outshot Young Harris 20-6 (8-1 on goal) as they tried to get the equalizer, but Young Harris freshman goalkeeper Taylor Erickson recorded her third shutout of the season as she registered seven saves.
