YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken scored twice in the final 11 minutes as they defeated Young Harris College 3-2 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Wednesday (Sept. 19) afternoon at the Frances Wood Wilson Soccer Field.
The Pacers improved to 3-4-1 overall and to 2-0-0 inside the conference while the Mountain Lions dropped their second consecutive match and fell to 4-2-0 and 0-2-0. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Sept. 22) when they host Flagler College in a noon match.
The Mountain Lions, who scored a quick goal at the 2:01 mark from Mika Lopes, retook a 2-1 lead an unassisted goal from Whitney Thomas in the 38th minute. It would stay that way until the Pacers tied the match at 2 when they scored on an own goal after a YHC player knocked the ball in the goal.
USC Aiken scored the match winner with 37 seconds remaining when Kim Beyer's strike off a corner kick from Aubrey Danielson ricochet off the crossbar and into the back of the net.
