UNC Pembroke shuts out Young Harris 2-0

PEMBROKE, N.C. – Martin Tomter scored twice in the second half as the University of North Carolina at Pembroke shut out Young Harris College 2-0 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday (Oct. 20) afternoon at Varsity Grounds. 

The Braves improved to 10-3-1 overall and to 5-3-0 in the conference while the Mountain Lions fell to 12-3-1 and 4-2-1. Young Harris travels to Morrow, Ga., Wednesday (Oct. 24) for a 7:30 p.m. Peach Belt match against Clayton State University.

UNCP took a 1-0 lead at the 54:41 mark on Martin Tomter's seventh goal. Tomter collected a pass from Sean Hoek at the top of the box and knocked the ball into the left corner. Tomter scored the insurance goal for the Braves with just under nine minutes left in the contest as he scored on a fast break down the left side of the field and scored into the right corner of the goal. 

Ryan Hanson recorded a shutout as he tallied four saves for the Braves, who held a slim 16-13 advantage in shots, while Wezly Barnard had two saves for the Mountain Lions.
