LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Mackenzie Bailey scored twice to lead the Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Young Harris College Tuesday (Oct. 9) night in the first match under the lights on the new Grizzly Soccer Field.
The Grizzlies improved to 6-4-1 while the Mountain Lions absorbed their third consecutive one-goal defeat fell to 5-6-0. Young Harris returns to the Frances Wood Wilson Soccer Field Saturday (Oct. 13) when they host Georgia Southwestern State University in a 3:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match.
In the 34th minute, Bailey opened the scoring by knocking an arcing ball into the top corner of the net over Young Harris goalkeeper
Yustin Nambo. After the Grizzlies were whistled for a foul just outside the box in the 65th minute, the Mountain Lions'
Mika Lopes ripped a free kick into the corner past Gutierrez for the tying score. It was Lopes' third strike of the season.
Bailey collected a loose ball outside the Mountain Lions' box with eight minutes left and fired a rocket – her fourth of 2012 - into the lower corner of the goal to give the Grizzlies the lead for good.
Young Harris held an 18-16 advantage in shots while Nambo and GGC goalkeeper Mo Gutierrez each recorded six saves.
