Mountain Lions march by Crusaders 7-0

EAST RIDGE, Tenn. – Haley Holderfield and Kelsey Battle each scored twice as the Young Harris College women’s soccer team thwarted Tennessee Temple University 7-0 Monday (Sept. 26) evening at the Weldon F. Osborne Stadium at Camp Jordan Park.

The Mountain Lions, who recorded their fourth shutout, improved to 6-2-0 while the Crusaders fell to 1-9-0. Young Harris returns to action Friday (Sept. 30) when they host the University of West Alabama in a 4 p.m. match at the Frances Wood Wilson Soccer Field.

Young Harris, which outshot Tennessee Temple 34-3, wasted little time jumping on the Crusaders as they scored twice in the opening three minutes. Holderfield, who leads the team with six goals, opened the scoring 28 seconds into the match on a through ball and Emily Villas’ third goal of the season ricocheted off the crossbar two minutes later.

Holderfield, Whitney Thomas and Kelsey Battle each added strikes in the first half as the Mountain Lions were staked to a 5-0 lead at the intermission. Battle would add another goal 39 seconds into the second half before Kaylin Canup closed out the scoring with a header.

Kelsey Cunningham and Gabby Smith combined on the shutout for the Mountain Lions with Smith picking up the save.
