No. 15 Braves hold on for 2-1 win over Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Alisia Gustafson scored 98 seconds into the second half as the 15th-ranked University of North Carolina at Pembroke women’s soccer team had to rally for a 2-1 decision over Young Harris College Sunday (Sept. 18) afternoon at the Frances Wood Wilson Soccer Field.

The Braves improved to 5-1-1 while the Mountain Lions fell to 4-2-0. Young Harris returns to action Friday (Sept. 23) when the travel to Sewanee, Tenn., for a 7:30 p.m. match against the University of the South.

Gustafson’s match-deciding goal came on UNCP’s first offensive attack of the second half off a cross from teammate Andrea Collen at the 46:38 mark.

Young Harris took a 1-0 lead at the 20:42 mark on Haley Holderfield’s fourth goal of the season off a pass from Rachel Wilkes. The Braves wasted less than a minute to tie the match at 1 on a blast from the top of the box from Ashley Anctil after a cross from Cassie DeQueiroz.

The Mountain Lions outshot UNCP 14-11. Young Harris goalkeeper Kelsey Cunningham had six saves while UNCP’s Britney Bennett had five.
