WALESKA, Ga. – The Young Harris College baseball team fell behind by 10 runs in the opening inning and couldn’t recover as the Mountain Lions fell, 18-5, on Wednesday night at Ken White Baseball Field.
Reinhardt (8-13) jumped out to a 10-0 lead by plating 10 runs on nine hits and took advantage of one Young Harris error in the bottom of the first inning.
The Eagles added to the lead in the third with a pair of runs on one hit to take a 12-0 lead.
Reinhardt put the game away in the fifth with four runs on three hits to take a 16-0 advantage.
Young Harris (16-13) got on the scoreboard in the sixth by scoring five runs on three hits to cut the margin to 16-5.
David Atwood was hit by a pitch and Josh Rudnik doubled to right to begin the inning. Carr walked to load the bases with no outs. Jack Morrow flied out to center for the sacrifice fly to plate Atwood as Rudnik took third. Adam Moore singled through the left side to score Rudnik as Carr stopped at second. Bowen Klosinski walked to load the bases. After a pitching change, Trey Rogers walked as Carr scored. Tommy Ferguson also drew a walk as Moore came in to score. Zach Bricknell brought in Klosinski with a base hit through the left side.
Reinhardt continued its offensive output in the bottom of the frame with two more runs on three hits to extend the advantage to 18-5.
Nick Galvin (0-1) started on the mound for the Mountain Lions, going 0.2 of an inning. He surrendered 10 runs (nine earned) on eight hits with a pair of strikeouts and a walk. Tyler Isbell, Blake Fortune, Billy Demersky, Carr and Taylor Topping pitched in relief.
Cory Cox (1-1) earned the win in 5.1 innings. He gave up five runs on four hits with 13 walks and four strikeouts. Chris Fletcher, Ricky Johnson and Jake Waters worked in relief.
