YOUNG HARRIS - The Young Harris College Mountain Lions offense smashed 15 hits and Adam Moore threw seven innings without giving up an earned run to lift Young Harris (7-8) over Montreat College,11-1, in a game called after seven innings because of the mercy rule on Friday night at Zell B. Miller Field.
Montreat College (2-6) scored their only run in the top of the first inning when leadoff batter Lance Gower reached second on a two-base error, was sacrificed over to third, and later scored on a passed ball to put the Cavaliers up 1-0 early. Moore settled down and pitched well over the next 6-plus innings, only surrendering four hits and two walks, while striking out eight. The complete-game effort by Moore (2-2) marked his second victory of the season, and his second win in as many weeks.
Moore (2 H, 2 R, 3 RBI) would provide more than enough offense as he retired Cavalier hitters inning after inning. His second-inning double to score Jack Morrow (1 H, 1 R) tied the score at one run apiece, and one inning later his sacrifice fly to center scored Josh Rudnik (2 H, 2 R) and gave the Mountain Lions a commanding 5-1 lead.
Along with Moore, Morrow, and Rudnik, Evan Carr (3 H, 1 R, 2 RBI), Zach Bricknell (2 H, 2 RBI), and Mike Medori (2 H, 1 RBI) had productive days at the plate for Young Harris. Jonathon Madera took the loss for the Cavaliers, going 4.2 innings, giving up 10 runs on 11 hits.
Young Harris College will play Montreat College again tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12pm, before concluding the series on Sunday with the game time set for 2:00pm.
