Mountain Lions drop second consecutive 1-0 women's soccer decision

ROME, Ga. – Shorter University's Aline Bez Tamiosso scored in the 14th minute and goalkeeper Taylor Hays saved a first-half penalty kick as the Hawks hung on to defeat Young Harris College 1-0 Tuesday (Nov. 1) evening at Ben Brady Field.

The Hawks improved to 7-11-0 while the Mountain Lions dropped their second consecutive 1-0 decision in as many days and fell to 10-6-1. Young Harris wraps up its 2011 campaign with a 2:30 p.m. match Nov. 8 against Berry College. Prior to the contest at the Frances Wood Wilson Soccer Field, the Mountain Lions will honor their seniors.

Shorter's Kayla Bell and Brandi Greenwald connected to find Tamiosso just outside of the box in the 14th minute and the sophomore placed her shot into the top corner of the cage for a 1-0 Shorter lead and her 13th goal of the season.

Young Harris began to pepper Shorter's goal over the next 15 minutes and seemed to finally catch a break when Shorter's Kacie Farrer was whistled for a foul in the box in the 36th minute; however, Hays dove to her left to deny Mika Lopes her equalizer on the ensuing penalty kick opportunity. The Mountain Lions, who held a 17-13 advantage in shots, put two shots off the crossbar in the second half and had four more attempts saved by Hays. Young Harris goalkeeper Kelsey Cunningham tallied six saves.
