Mountain Lions roam past Buffaloes 3-1

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. – Young Harris College won its third consecutive contest as the Mountain Lions defeated Milligan College 3-1 Thursday (Oct. 6) afternoon in a men’s soccer match at Anglin Field.

Young Harris improved to 8-3-0 while the Buffaloes fell to 7-3-0. The Mountain Lions wrap up their five-match road trip Wednesday (Oct. 12) when they travel to Dahlonega, Ga., for a 7 p.m. match against North Georgia College & State University.

The Mountain Lions took a 1-0 lead as Khurram Shazad scored his fourth goal of the season at the 39:05 mark. Young Harris doubled its lead when Andreas Pechmann scored his fourth goal of the season at the 55:23 mark. The Buffaloes cut the deficit in half at 2-1 on a goal by Un-Ace Wright.

Young Harris closed out the scoring with an insurance goal on a strike from Trevor Monroe with just four minutes remaining in the match. It was Monroe’s third goal of the season.

Declan Traquair provided a work ethic and commitment that was second to none,” said head coach Mark McKeever. “He showed much character and stepped up to lead when Ashley Walker was injured.”
