Saints use second half to get past Young Harris 3-1

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – North Georgia College & State University scored three second half goals as the Saints defeated Young Harris College 3-1 Wednesday (Oct. 12) evening at the NGCSU Soccer Complex.

North Georgia improved to 6-5-1 while the Mountain Lions saw their three-match winning streak snapped as they fell to 8-4-0. Young Harris returns home to the Frances Wood Wilson Soccer Field Saturday (Oct. 15) after a five-match road trip when they host Reinhardt University in a 2 p.m. match.

The two teams battled to a scoreless draw in the first half before the Saints wasted little time scoring in the opening 90 seconds of the second half. Max Angel scored his fourth goal of the season when he finished James Dobbins' header on the left side.

North Georgia took a 2-0 lead in the 61st minute as Korey Daigle finished inside the box after a cross from Malte Krapp. The Mountain Lions cut the lead in half in the 77th minute as Stephen McGinn notched his first goal of 2011 when he finished a header from Ashley Walker and put the goal in the right side. The Saints got a valuable insurance goal with just over nine minutes remaining as Gray Phelps converted a Young Harris giveaway just outside the box into a goal.
