Wolves edge Mountain Lions 1-0 on late goal

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of West Georgia used a late goal to edge Young Harris College 1-0 in a women's soccer match played at the Frances Wood Wilson Soccer Field Monday (Oct. 31) afternoon.

The Wolves ended their season 7-9-2 while the Mountain Lions fell to 10-5-1. Young Harris returns to action Tuesday (Nov. 1) as they travel to Rome, Ga., for a 7 p.m. contest at Shorter University.

West Georgia, which was outshot 23-14 by the Mountain Lions, scored the lone goal in the 81st minute as Cydney Raymond took the ball down the left side of the field and passed it to Anna Cusick, who fired a shot into the right corner of the net.

Young Harris' best opportunity to score came midway during the first half when Mika Lopes' strike hit the far post and bounced away.

Mary Laza recorded 13 saves between the pipes to earn the shutout for the Wolves, while Kelsey Cunningham tallied six for Young Harris.
