Late goal gives Falcons 3-2 double overtime win over YHC

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Alex Morton scored with 63 seconds remaining in the second overtime period as the University of Montevallo edged Young Harris College 3-2 in a men's soccer match Tuesday (Oct. 18) afternoon at Varsity Field.

The Falcons improved to 9-3-3 while the Mountain Lions fell to 8-5-1. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Oct. 22) when they host SCAD Savannah in a 1 p.m. Family Weekend contest at the Frances Wood Wilson Soccer Field.

Morton's match-winner – his third goal of the season – was a breakaway that was crossed in by teammate Stefan Vaziri. Young Harris forced the extra time when Niall McCabe scored his third goal of the season in the 83rd minute as he collected a misclear by the Falcons and knocked it off the post to tie the match at 2.

Montevallo took a 1-0 lead at the 13:51 mark as Shane Howard flicked in a shot off a pass from Phil Jackson. Young Harris leveled the match on Andreas Pechmann's penalty kick in the opening minutes of the second half. Jackson helped the Falcons retook the lead at 2-1 at the 55:55 mark as he knocked in a rebound of Morton's initial shot.
