Pechmann, Mountain Lions swat Bees 6-1

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Andreas Pechmann scored twice and assisted on three others as Young Harris College defeated SCAD Savannah 6-1 in a men's soccer match Saturday (Oct. 22) afternoon at the Francis Wood Wilson Soccer Field on Family Weekend.

The Mountain Lions improved to 9-5-1 while the Bees fell to 5-5-2. Young Harris returns to the pitch Wednesday (Oct. 26) when they host Carson-Newman College in a 4:30 p.m. Senior Day match at Wilson Field.

Young Harris jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first half. Pechmann, who is second on the team in goals with seven, scored the two of the first three Mountain Lion goals. His second goal came on a penalty kick at the 25:00 mark after a Young Harris player was tackled in the box to give Young Harris a 3-0 advantage.

Sandwiched between the two Pechmann goals was a strike by Khurram Shazad, who also scored twice for the Mountain Lions against SCAD. Young Harris got its final goal in the first half on Cory Bonar's first goal of the season off a set piece on a direct kick just outside the box.

The Bees got their lone goal at the 38:48 mark on a through ball from Jose Izurieta-Herrera to Karl Sjostrom, who knocked it into the left corner of the net.

Young Harris thwarted any thoughts of a SCAD comeback as they scored twice in a span of 86 seconds late in the second half as Shazad, who now has six goals in 2011, and Rafael Yamamoto found the back of the net.
