YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College and Tusculum College battled to a 2-2 double-overtime draw in a women's soccer match Thursday (Oct. 13) afternoon at Frances Wood Wilson Soccer Field.
The Mountains Lions improved to 8-3-1 while the Pioneers went to 8-4-1. Young Harris College returns to action Wednesday (Oct. 19) when they travel to Brevard, N.C., for a 4 p.m. contest against Brevard College.
Mika Lopes gave the Mountain Lions a 1-0 lead when she blasted her fifth goal of the season from 25 yards out into the upper right corner of the net. The Pioneers leveled the match at 1 when Tramicka James used a through ball from Claire Duncan and knocked it into the goal.
Young Harris again regained the lead at 2-1 when Rachel Wilkes knocked the rebound of Haley Holderfield's shot that ricocheted off the post at the 62:41 mark. After the match was delayed for 43 minutes due to lightning, the Pioneer knotted the match at 2 with 10 minutes remaining in regulation when Michelle Meade converted a free kick from just outside of the box.
Tusculum held a 20-17 advantage on shots. Young Harris goalkeeper Kelsey Cunningham registered nine saves while Marissa Williams accumulated six for the Pioneers.
