SWANNONA, N.C. – The Young Harris College women’s soccer team won their fourth consecutive match as they ruined homecoming for Warren Wilson College Saturday (Oct. 1) afternoon with a 2-0 victory at the Warren Wilson Soccer Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 8-2-0 as they registered their sixth shutout while the Owls fell to 1-6-2. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Oct. 5) when they travel to Pensacola, Fla., for a 7:30 p.m. Central time contest against the University of West Florida.
Mika Lopes gave the Mountain Lions a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute with her fourth goal of the season. Haley Holderfield added an insurance goal for Young Harris, which outshot Warren Wilson 32-2, in the 75th minute. It was her team-leading seventh goal of 2011.
Mountain Lion goalkeeper Kelsey Cunningham stopped one shot and picked up her fifth shutout of the season.
