HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Jacob Connelly, Mouhamed Bechir and Angel Rivera scored goals as the Young Harris College men’s soccer team rallied with a late goal to tie Coker College, 3-3, Saturday afternoon at Coker Soccer Field.
Coker (4-2-3) opened the scoring in the ninth minute as Jordan Snell scored on a header off an assist by Tyler Staub to give the Cobras a 1-0 advantage.
The Cobras nearly made it 2-0 in the 10th minute as Eric Stiefield’s shot banged off the post. However, Coker got a goal by Daniel Ahirzad to take a 2-0 lead in the 40th minute.
Young Harris (0-3-4) got some momentum heading into the second half as Connelly scored on a breakaway as the assist went to Bechir, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
The Mountain Lions tied the game at 2 in the 51st minute as Bechir scored his first goal of the season off an assist by Niall McCabe.
Back came Coker in the 80th minute as Noah Lascell assisted on Atticus Lum’s goal to give the Cobras a 3-2 lead. But Young Harris answered as time ticked down in the 88th minute when Rivera found the back of the net off an assist by Bechir, tying the game at 3.
Both teams had chances in overtime, but neither could get the ball into the back of the net.
The Mountain Lions return to action 5:00 p.m., Monday, Sept. 27 at the YHC Soccer Field against Shorter University.
