HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Young Harris College men’s soccer team couldn’t overcome a first-half goal in falling to Lincoln Memorial, 2-0, Saturday.
“I felt it was an even contest,” Mountain Lions coach Mark McKeever said. “Niall McCabe was all over the field today. We had several chances in the second half and dominated the action in the half.”
The Railsplitters (6-2) got an unassisted goal in the 12th minute on a breakaway by Mackenzie Wilde to grab a 1-0 lead.
Young Harris (0-4-4) went up a man advantage in the 61st minute as Andrew Bayerl was sent off. However, Lincoln Memorial would get its second goal on a penalty kick as Fernando Silveira beat Mountain Lions goalkeeper Wezley Barnard to grab a 2-0 lead.
Barnard recorded three saves, while Michael Watkins had five for the Railsplitters.
Lincoln Memorial out-shot Young Harris, 15-9, while the Mountain Lions had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Young Harris returns to action with a makeup game 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 6 at the YHC Soccer Field against Shorter University.
