YOUNG HARRIS – Rachel Wilkes scored in the first half and Emily Villas added a goal in the second half as the Young Harris women’s soccer team blanked Truett-McConnell, 2-0, Saturday at the YHC Soccer Field.

The Mountain Lions (2-2) nearly made it 1-0 in the 20^th minute as Mica Lopes’ shot to the far post was knocked away by Bears goalkeeper Hayle Swinson. However, Young Harris broke the scoreless tie in the 36^th minute as Wilkes was in the right place, at the right time, knocking in a shot, which was initially deflected by Swinson, to give the Mountain Lions a 1-0 lead.

Young Harris remained ahead, 1-0, until the 51^st minute as Kelley Lyness’ corner kick found the foot of Villas in the penalty area for the goal to give the Mountain Lions a 2-0 advantage.

The Mountain Lions had a chance to add another goal in the 77^th minute, but Villas’ penalty kick shot to the upper left corner was pushed away by Swinson.

Young Harris out-shot Truett-McConnell, 19-7, but the Bears had the advantage on corner kicks, 4-2.

Allie Matulia had four saves for Young Harris, while Swinson finished with 10.

The Mountain Lions remain at home, playing host 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 14 against Tennessee Wesleyan at the YHC Soccer Field.
