YOUNG HARRIS – The Young Harris College women’s soccer team dominated Tennessee Wesleyan Tuesday afternoon, but couldn’t get the ball into the back of the net as the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
Allie Matulia recorded six saves for the Mountain Lions (2-2-1), while Chealsey Baxter had 11 for the Lady Bulldogs (3-2-1).
Young Harris out-shot Tennessee Wesleyan, 20-10, and had a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks.
Both teams had opportunities to score, but the Mountain Lions nearly went in front 1-0 in the 85th minute as Mica Lopes’ header was punched away and Emily Villas’ attempt on the header was stopped by Baxter to keep the game scoreless.
Baxter continued to keep the game scoreless by making two stops on shots by Kelley Lyness and Lopes in the final two minutes of the second overtime.
Young Harris takes about a week off before its next match as the Mountain Lions play host at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 21 against Brevard College at the YHC Soccer Field.
