MARS HILL, N.C. – The Young Harris College women’s soccer team, winners of five of its last seven games, got a goal in the 16th minute to spoil Mars Hill’s Senior Night with a 1-0 victory on Friday night.
The Mountain Lions (8-5-1) broke the scoreless tie in the 16th minute as Mika Lopes connected on a Rachel Wilkes cross for the games only goal.
The Lions dominated the game and out-shot Young Harris, 13-4, and both teams took a pair of corner kicks in the match.
Gabby Smith got the start in goal for Allie Matulia and finished with four saves, while Kristin Westerhorstmann recorded three for Mars Hill (9-6-2).
Young Harris returns to action 1:00 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 31 at the YHC Soccer Field against Oakwood University.
