Karl Chavis was a standout for the Mountain Lions during a week of thrilling matchups for the men's basketball team.
In a nail-biter against Emmanuel University on Wednesday (Dec. 4) evening, Chavis showcased his poise and leadership despite the team narrowly falling 65-63. The junior forward contributed significantly on both ends of the court, delivering 13 points, three rebounds, and one steal. Chavis shot 4-8 from the field, 2-3 from long-range, and 3-4 at the charity stripe. His relentless energy kept Young Harris competitive throughout the game.
Chavis and the Mountain Lions rebounded impressively on Saturday (Dec. 7) evening, storming past Erskine College with a commanding 96-68 win at The Harp Recreation and Commencement Center. Chavis led the charge with a game-high 20 points, adding four rebounds, and three assists. Karl went 5-8 on FG's, 2-2 from beyond the arc, and an incredible 8-8 from the free throw line. His ability to draw fouls in the paint, knock down free throws, and facilitate plays highlighted his importance to the team. Karl Chavis and the Mountain Lions defense had the Erskine offense on locks, as the Flying fleet went 22-67 (32.8%) from the field and 13-50 (26%) from three-point range.
Karl Chavis finished the week with 33 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal; also adding an 80% success rate on three-point shots and going 11-12 from the FT line. With Chavis at the helm, the Mountain Lions now hold a 6-3 record (3-1 Conference Carolinas), showing resilience and growth as the season progresses.
