Madison Urquiola begins her third year as the Associate Director of Athletics for External Operations at Young Harris College.
Urquiola was promoted to Associate Director of Athletics for External Operations by Aaron Bessy in January 2025. In this new role Urquiola will oversee the Media and Communications Department, and have sport oversight of the Men's and Women's Golf, and Cheerleading programs. Urquiola is responsible for providing strategic vision for all external operations in the athletics department. This includes building relationships through corporate sponsorships and Mountain Lion Club Memberships, marketing for the department, and engaging the community through special events. Urquiola also handles ticketing and brand strategy initiatives for YHC.
Urquiola started as the college's assistant sports information director in August 2021. While in that role, she assisted with all publicity and social media for the department. Urquiola was responsible for maintaining statistics and records for the Mountain Lions while writing press releases and assisting with the department's website.
Under Bessy's leadership, Urquiola assisted in breaking the record for athletic fundraising in the fall of 2024.
During her time with the softball program, Urquiola competed in four Peach Belt Conference tournaments, four regional tournaments, two super regional tournaments, and the NCAA Division II National Championship.
Urquiola helped lead the Mountain Lions to a 175-70 record during her time in the Enchanted Valley.
Urquiola was a part of the 2019 Mountain Lion team that won the NCAA Division II Southeast Super Regional and finished as a national semifinalist at the NCAA Division II National Championship, where she was named to the all-tournament team.
Urquiola graduated with a bachelor's degree in communication studies and a double minor in sport studies and management. While at YHC, she maintained a spot on the dean's list and was a part of Lambda Pi Eta, the communication studies honor society. Urquiola is a member of the Rotary Club of Union County and serves as the co-chair of the public image committee.
