As the Co-Faculty Athletics Representative, Assistant Professor of Mathematics and chair of the Department of Mathematics, Alex Barnes, Ph.D., combines his love of sports, statistics, and sports analytics with a desire to see Young Harris College's student-athletes succeed.
In this multifaceted role, Barnes oversees the academic integrity of the department of athletics and helps to ensure that all rules and regulations of the College, Conference Carolinas and the National Collegiate Athletics Association are followed. His top priority is supporting student-athletes for academic and personal success at YHC and beyond.
Barnes joined the Young Harris College faculty in 2018 and specializes in optimization, statistics, and sports analytics. He has presented across the country at national and local conferences.
Barnes received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Troy University. He received his master's degree in mathematics and his doctorate in mathematics with focuses on optimization and statistics from the University of Alabama.
