Assistant coach Gavin Scott played a vital role in the success of the Young Harris College men’s soccer program during the 2024 season. The Mountain Lions posted an impressive 11-3-4 overall record, including an 8-1-2 mark in Conference Carolinas play, earning them the Southwest Division title. Young Harris advanced to the Conference Carolinas Tournament Semifinals before falling in a hard-fought 2-3 match against Chowan University. With Scott’s contributions, the Mountain Lions saw standout performances from Sergio Llopart (8 goals, 23 points), Thomas Kleinpenning (7 goals, 24 points), and Jamie Lapsley (6 goals, 16 points). Young Harris had six players earn spots on the Conference Carolinas All-Conference team.
Gavin Scott, hailing from Ayr, Scotland, a former standout forward at Union University and Midwestern State; joins the Mountain Lions as the Assistant Men's Soccer Coach. Scott brings a wealth of experience from his time as a player and coach. At Midwestern State, he helped the men's soccer team win the Lone Star Conference (LSC) Championship and served as a graduate assistant for the women’s soccer team, contributing to a 10-5-5 record and a semifinal appearance in the LSC Tournament.
As a player, Scott excelled at Union University, where he set the record for goals scored in the D2 era with 31. He played a key role in the team’s Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Series title in 2021. At Midwestern State, he added to his impressive resume with three goals and two game-winning goals in 14 appearances.
Scott earned his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Union University and a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology from Midwestern State. He was recognized academically with multiple honors, including the GSC Honor Roll, GSC All-Academic team, and CoSida All-District and All-America accolades.
